Why Do Many Marshmallow Products Say They Have Dyes?

by Danielle
(Pennsylvania)

I do not understand how marshmallows can be full of dyes. Many of the labels say red, blue or yellow dyes on them.

But they are white and when I mix red, blue and yellow I sure don't get white.

Can you tell me what is going on? Thanks!

Kathi's response:

Don't feel bad Danielle. I wondered about this one all the time also.

I just kept reading ingredient labels between different companies and finally started calling a few of them to find out what was going on.

Every single company I talked to says their colored marshmallows are packed in the same bag as the white MM. So the ingredient label covers everything.

Now this makes sense.

But as with everything else, do not take my word for it. Just maybe you are checking on a company that I did not call. Call their customer service number anyway and verify this holds true for your selection also.
