Sugarfree Sports Drink: A Quick Electrolyte Refresher, And Healthy Snacks
Making the healthy snacks version of any sugarfree sports drink is quick and easy but does not have those huge quantities of natural sugars which is detrimental to a diabetic's health because of an overload in excess quantities of carbohydrates. Making your own at home, with the aid of natural fruits can reduce the carbs load but still alleviate all the symptoms of excessive thirst and fatigue commonly felt when your body craves some sport drink. Remember though, this drink is still based on fresh fruits, so do not forget to factor in the carbohydrates** which they contain into your daily carb counts.
Ingredients- 2 cups fresh orange juice (or equal to two cups mixed with water if coming from frozen concentrate)
- 2 cups water
- 2 T.fresh lemon juice
- OR
- 1 T. fresh lemon juice and 1 T. fresh lime juice
- 1/4 tsp salt (table salt)***
- Stevia to taste ( or two packets Equal, Splenda etc.)
Mix all ingredients in a large pitcher, chill and serve cool.
**3 to 4 oz. of fresh fruit juice is approximately 15 grams of carbs *** This table salt is only needed during heavy workouts or hot weather which causes excess perspiration. Omit the salt for general routine ingestion during normal workout sessions.
