Nabati - Vegetable Stabilizer
Hello,
I have an Indonesian coconut milk that contains "Penstabil (nabati)". I have translated this to be Stabilizer Vegetable, however I cannot determine what kind of vegetables it would be.
Are all vegetable gums (besides oat) safe?
Thank you!
Site owner's answerHi Nellie,
First, I am unsure where you are writing from so some of my answer might become difficult for you to get answers.
I notice the product you mentioned is Indonesian. I assume from your question/comment you already have this product in your possession. My first suggestion therefore is you really should contact the manufacturer and verify the source.
In the United States it is now law that all vegetable gums CAN NOT be made from a grain source unless they are itemized on the ingredient label as to the exact contents.
Actually though, many other countries are still using a grain source to make their gums for food processing and since many do not have labeling laws as strict as here in the US (on this particular item), the consumer can't know without verifying with the manufacturer. This type of labeling is not standard in many other countries though so it is very possible it could be a grain source and they are not required to itemize it.
If you do habitually use this product, verify the source first. Check the packaging and find the customer service contact number, email or address and send them a request. Alternatively, check with your retailer where they purchased it. They may be able to get you a contact name, number or even an answer.
I'll keep checking around and see if I can find you a better answer but if anyone else is familiar with this product, let us all know.
Hope this helps you Nellie.
