Milk and Egg Allergy:
Managing Your Diet By
Finding Healthy Snacks

According to your pediatrician, your baby may now have a milk and egg allergy. And yet, just a few short months ago you were receiving all the congratulations from friends, family and co-workers because of the new addition to the family. A few small bumps had materialized in the road but everything had settled down to a pretty comfortable routine.

Normal Upcoming Events In A Child's Development

Both of these conditions are not uncommon in a young child. Many babies, having shown signs and symptoms of a dairy allergy within the last few months already has a "distressed" digestive system. Therefore, once the baby does become old enough to start solid foods, noticing a reaction to eggs and or milk products is not that unusual. The good news, with time and the maturation process, a young child will often outgrow a milk and egg allergy and once again be able to enjoy a new assortment of healthy snacks.

Symptoms Of A Milk and Egg Allergy

Along with the normal skin conditions (eczema, hives and tissue swelling) many, especially children, will develop abdominal stress such as gas, bloating, vomiting and diarrhea. If you are prone to asthma, your symptoms will be more severe so work closely with your doctor for greater control.

An egg allergy has the tendency to lead to a greater chance of an anaphylactic reaction so discuss with your doctor the advisability of having an Epi-Pen in case the need arises.

Prevention Of Nutritional Deficiencies

Care must be taken to prevent nutritional deficiencies since you have now removed two different food groups from the diet. Removing milk and milk products can lead to a calcium deficiency. The removal of all egg products may lead to a vitamin and mineral deficiency. Eggs are an important source of 11 different vitamins and minerals for the human body.

By adding dark green leafy vegetables, almonds, brazil nuts, sesame seeds, legumes, whole grains and many forms of meat and poultry, you will effectively make up any deficiencies which may occur. Work closely with a nutritionist and they will help you outline an eating plan for your future health and safety while still avoiding your allergy to milk and eggs.
