Why Egg Free Food
Is Needed

Egg free food is a necessity for many people, regardless of age. When an allergy to eggs is present, consuming these items or foods made with them can prove deadly for some.

Egg Free Food

While allergies to eggs are among the most common, there are other reasons why people choose to avoid this staple item. Eggs, for example, can conflict with a vegetarian diet. They can also be a source of unwanted cholesterol. Learning to avoid them also can be important to people protesting the mistreatment of animals by large factory farms.

Fortunately, there are a number of options to help people enjoy an egg free food lifestyle. While it is a difficult path to pursue, it can be done when diligence is employed.

The Severity Of Egg Allergies

Of all the food allergies out there, a sensitivity to the protein found in eggs is among the most common. While allergies to eggs can strike at any age, they are most common in children. This condition generally does goes away with age though if it forms in childhood. During its duration, however, the symptoms can prove rather unpleasant.

The symptoms associated with egg allergies include:

  • The development of skin rashes or hives

  • Vomiting or other stomach complaints

  • Inflammation in the nasal passages

  • Anaphylaxis, a potentially fatal severe reaction which is not common

Why Reading Labels Is A Must

People with egg allergies or those who simply choose to avoid this ingredient will find reading labels needs to be a way of life. Eggs are a common ingredient in a number of products and in many cases they are hidden. To avoid eggs, reading the ingredient labels on prepackaged products is a must. It is also wise to ask about recipes when eating out.

Unusual Foods That Contain Eggs

There are a variety of common foods that contain eggs without many people even realizing this. Some of the things to watch out for include:

  • Many baked goods, including batters, cakes, cookies

  • Processed meats

  • Pudding

  • A variety of pastas

  • Salad dressings

  • Some beverages, including malt beverages and certain coffee drinks(the foaming agent on top usually contains egg)

  • Marshmallows

  • Frosting

  • Flu Vaccines

Foods That Comply

One of the best ways to ensure that eggs are avoided entirely is to prepare foods personally. Some items that can be made without eggs in the mix or by using egg substitutes include:

  • Baked goods

  • Scrambled “eggs,” using a substitute

  • Homemade salad dressings

  • Pancakes and other batter-based foods

  • Meatballs, meatloaves, sausages and any meat product dependent on a binder to hold its shape

Egg free foods are available on the market. The key to avoiding unwanted ingredients, however, lies in reading labels or personally preparing food to ensure a totally egg free diet.
